Peterborough Town Library, 2 Concord St., will host a new exhibit, “Portraits in Pencil and Paint,” featuring portraits in a range of media by local artist Marty Kelley. The exhibit opens Friday, Aug. 1, and runs through the end of September in the library’s Community Art Gallery.

A reception with the artist will be held on First Friday, Sept. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m., and an artist talk is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m.

Kelley’s portraits, created in pencil, chalk and transparent watercolor, aim to convey not just physical likeness but also emotion and personality. Known for his work as a children’s book author and illustrator, Kelley also works in abstract sculpture using stone, metal and wood.

The exhibit is open to the public during regular library hours. For information, visit peterboroughtownlibrary.org or call 603-924-8040.
