Thompson is the author of more than 30 plays, 10 screenplays and two novels. His work includes “On Golden Pond,” “The West Side Waltz,” “A Good Time” and “The Constituent.” He received the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the 1981 film version of “On Golden Pond,” which he adapted from his own stage play. His honors also include two Golden Globes, Writers Guild and Broadway Drama Guild awards, and nominations for a Tony, an Emmy and a British Academy Award. He also co-founded Rescind Recidivism, a prison writing program.
