The third presentation at the Amos Fortune Forum 2025 summer speaker series will feature photographer Paul Wainwright presenting “Colonial Meetinghouses: A Little-Known Chapter in American History” Friday, July 25, at 8 p.m. in the Jaffrey Meetinghouse in Jaffrey Center.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, every New England town had a Colonial meetinghouse. It was a requirement for receiving a town charter from the colonial governor. In them, town residents shaped and formed many civic and religious foundations, and they were at the center of every community.
Since 2004, Wainwright has been photographing New England meetinghouses. He is the author of “A Space for Faith: The Colonial Meetinghouses of New England.”
