The Monadnock Summer Lyceum will present “Stories for Health” with Dr. Annie Brewster on Sunday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at the Peterborough Unitarian Universalist Church, 25 Main St.

Brewster, an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, will discuss the use of storytelling to help people navigate illness, trauma and loss. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2001, she is both a physician and patient. She is also the founder and executive director of Health Story Collaborative, a nonprofit that offers forums and resources for people to share and receive personal health stories.

Her talk will examine social science and neurobiological research showing the health benefits of narrative and will offer practical ways to use storytelling to support individual well-being and positive social change. Brewster is co-author of “The Healing Power of Storytelling” with journalist Rachel Zimmerman.

Welcome music begins at 10:30 a.m. with guitar and vocal duo McGettigan & Gilbert. The event is sponsored by Monadnock Community Hospital and moderated by its president and CEO, Cyndee McGuire. A reception will follow.
