First- and second-graders at Dublin Consolidated School recently wrote and illustrated a book honoring Dublin Police Officer Stephen Dalterio and his dog, Felix.

Dalterio has built relationships with students through classroom visits, math games, sharing his Marine Corps experiences and connecting with students in hallways and at recess. Inspired by his presence, students wrote a book titled โ€œOfficer Dalterio and Felix.โ€

The story follows Felixโ€™s dream of becoming a police dog and helping solve a mystery involving stolen cars in Dublin. In the end, Felix earns the title of Dublin Police Dog.

Each student contributed to writing the story, which was displayed on the classroom smartboard by teacher Heather Fletcher. Students then illustrated their chosen pages.

When Dalterio visited the class, students read their book aloud and shared their artwork.

โ€œI hope the strong connections made at this early grade level continue through high school and beyond,โ€ Fletcher said.
