The River Center has launched its all new program lineup for the fall, with almost 20 programs running from September through to December.
Programs such as Mini Explorers, Babies in Arms, music programs, the now-weekly gaming group for middle-schoolers, and Jaffrey Group are continuing. The See the ABLE not the LABEL online support group is open to new and returning parents of children with special needs.
“This fall we are continuing the journey of helping parents discuss their similarities, strengths and struggles of raising children who also have various special needs, “ stated Mandy Carter, group facilitator of the See the ABLE not the LABEL support group. “This journey has been so incredibly special to me because I am helping parents understand that they have support and don’t have to go it alone.”
A new in-person parenting group and an online book club for parents of more than one child will start in October. The River Center also has two new support groups — the in-person group Untethered for those recovering from divorce and the online Kinship Caregivers Support Group for grandparents and other relatives seeking peer support and assistance from others who also have children placed in their care.
Once a month, families with young children will meet for the Messy Mondays program for messy play, art and exploration. Upper elementary students will go on a reading adventure in the in-person Book Wizards Book Club, meeting twice monthly. Safe Sitter Essentials is also in the works for this fall.
Adults seeking more mindfulness and balance in their lives can sign up for the weekly Now and Zen Yoga at the Peterborough Town Library and an online mindfulness-based Mindful Moments: Life Transitions.
For people wanting to get a better handle on their household finances, regardless of income level, Dave Ramsey’s nine-week program, Financial Peace University, is being offered with an information session scheduled on Sept. 14. With more women facing financial challenges such as becoming head of household with young children and other major life changes, the center has planned an evening for women to learn 12 Steps to Financial Health, a roadmap toward financial independence and informed financial decision-making.
“At the River Center, we seek to address the whole person in any season of their life, from babies to senior citizens,” stated Stephanie Latini, youth and family educator and facilitator of Untethered. “Our programs are inclusive, welcoming individuals and families from every background at The River Center.”
