Peterborough Town Library, 2 Concord St. in Peterborough, invites children to join “Run and Read A Marathon,” which runs from April 21 to May 31.

This program distributes free books to youth in the community, ages 5 to 11, and encourages exercising outside. Each child will be provided with a book log and a free book to keep Children should write down the books they read on your reading log, and after reaching 26 books – a marathon of reading — will win their own stopwatch after showing a librarian their completed log.

The next phase of the program is tracking the miles readers walk, jog or run. They mark each mile with a sticker on the reverse side of their reading log. When they’ve reached 25 miles, they may register online to run the last 1.2 miles of the Clarence DeMar Marathon on race day in September. Registration will be available through the DeMar Marathon website later this summer.

“Run and Read A Marathon” is offered through the Advocates for a Healthy Youth (AFHY) Coalition and supported by Cheshire Medical Center to advance the priorities of the Healthy Monadnock Alliance.
