The NCAA men’s and women’s college basketball seasons got underway over the weekend, and local stars are already looking good.

■ Eva Hodgson of Rindge is a redshirt senior at Division I University of North Carolina, where she starts at guard for the No. 12 Tar Heels. UNC lost to eventual champion South Carolina in the Sweet 16 last season and look to be a contender again this year. The Tar Heels are out to a 2-0 start, with Hodgson averaging 10 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and one steal in the two wins. 

■Sera Hodgson of Rindge is a sophomore at Division I University of Maine, where she comes off the bench to play guard for the Black Bears. UMaine was 1-0 going into Monday’s game at UMass. 

■Mariah Chamberlain of Jaffrey is a senior at Division III Endicott College, where she is the backup center for the Gulls. Chamberlain had four points and four rebounds in Endicott’s season-opening 80-77 win over Coast Guard Saturday. 

■Lindsey Carey of Greenfield is a senior at Division III Western New England University, where she starts at forward for the Golden Bears. Carey is averaging 10 points, four rebounds and two blocks per game so far this winter, and scored a game-high 13 points in WNE’s win over Widener on Friday.

Carey has an additional year of eligibility due to the COVID-shortened 2020 season and plans on playing another year as a graduate student. 

■Elizabeth Gonyea of Rindge is a sophomore at Division III Keene State College, where she comes off the bench for the Owls. Gonyea is averaging 5.5 points and four rebounds a game for KSC so far this season through two games. 

■Silas Bernier of Jaffrey is a junior at Division III Norwich University, where she starts at guard for the Cadets, who are currently 1-1 on the season. 

■Tate Niemela of Jaffrey is a junior at Division III Lasell University, where he comes off the bench for the Lasers. Niemela scored 10 points in Lasell’s 79-65 win over Babson Saturday; the Lasers are 1-1 so far this year.

■Anthony Gauthier of Jaffrey is a sophomore at NHTI, where he starts at guard for the Lynx men’s basketball team. Gauthier is averaging 19.7 ppg this season for NHTI as the team is out to a 1-2 start.
