The end of August is always a bittersweet time of dwindling light and cooler nights. But one bright spot is always Hancock’s Old Home Day and the book sale at Hancock Town Library.

Every year, our community comes together to donate thousands of books. Those books need to be sorted, boxed and stored. Then they need to be moved to our meeting room, set out in their categories and sold to the hundreds of folks who pass through our doors over the course of a week. It takes close to 50 volunteers to do this work, and they all come together cheerfully to accomplish it every year.

I’d like to thank Donna Geer and Jane Richards-Jones for their tireless work overseeing all the moving parts of our book sale. They’ve done this great good humor and a calm demeanor over many years. And to all who help with this effort, thank you. It always makes me verklempt to see our community coming together in support of this small library. Give us a few weeks to recover and then you can bring in more books for the 2023 sale.
