New software at the Wilton Fire Department is intended to improve the efficiency of data-collecting.
At Monday’s Select Board meeting, board members voted 3-0 to support an approximately $3,900 proposal for new dispatch and recording software. Of that amount, $1,000 will go to ImageTrend for software that will be responsible for recording information for the department, and about $2,900 will be for new technology from IMC Software that will improve dispatch communication.
According to Fire Chief Don Nourse, the new software will allow the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office to receive monthly information from the fire department much quicker, and the new software will speed up the data-collecting process from dispatch to recording.
“This will be a time-saver,” said Nourse.
Select Board Chair Kermit Williams said the board would be willing to invest in smarter technology to benefit Wilton’s fire department.
“I can see how this can benefit the data-collecting process, I would be in favor of this proposal,” said Williams.
On Tuesday, Nourse said the newly approved software update is well worth the $3,900 investment. According to the update is expected to arrive by the end of the year.
“It’s extremely important,” said Nourse. “I’m just trying to get up to speed with everybody else who’s already on it.”
In other news, Wilton’s newest $580,000 fire truck has reached the final stage of detailing before finding a new home in the town’s garage. Since Wilton residents voted in favor of a new truck on June 10, 2021, at Town Meeting, the truck has been undergoing construction for over a year at Eastern Fire Apparatus in Milton. The truck will replace Engine 1, which was built in 1987 and Nourse said is outdated.
Nourse said he is hoping to have the new engine by the end of August.
“We are looking forward to getting it in service and replacing the old one,” said Nourse.
