Mariposa Museum invites people to walk for peace in Ukraine Saturday, June 18, at 9:30 a.m. at Andre’s Institute of Art sculpture park in Brookline.
Walkers may follow the trail of their choosing through Andre’s mountainside sculpture park up to three sculptures at the summit by Ukrainian artists. The walk will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.. At 11:30 a.m., four-time Grammy Award-winning cellist and composer Eugene Friesen, formerly of the Paul Winter Consort, will offer a free concert near the Iron Workshop building.
Walkers are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and to bring water, bug spray and an optional carry-in/carry-out picnic. Access to the sculptures and concert is only available by walking via trails of differing levels of steepness. The parking lot at the Andres Visitor Center is at 106 Route 13 in Brookline. From the lot, follow signs or directions of volunteers to the trail head where you will find maps and other information available as well as a port-o-john.
Masks are not required at this event as the trails and sculptures are all outdoors.
All tax-deductible donations made via the Mariposa website, mariposamuseum.org, or on the day of the walk will be sent to four Ukrainian organizations working to assist people impacted by Russia’s war against Ukraine: World Central Kitchen, Kyiv School of Economics, Sunflower of Peace and United Help Ukraine.
