A Bennington man was charged with DWI following a car accident in Wilton June 2 that left 1,550 people without power.
According to police, 73-year-old Frank C. Woodward of 303 Greenfield Road in Bennington swerved off Forest Road on Route 31 and hit a utility pole at approximately 3:31 p.m. The pole broke in half. According to Eversource, the power was restored to about 720 customers in the first three minutes by remote system operators, and the remaining customers had power restored about three hours later.
The utility pole was replaced, and the line was re-energized the same day.
Woodward was taken to a hospital in Nashua, where he was treated and released. Lt. John Frechette from the Wilton Police Department said Woodward’s 2012 Toyota Tacoma was a total loss.
Woodward is set to appear July 18 at the Milford District Court.
