A fire believed to have started from a malfunctioning heating source destroyed a camper trailer on Old County Road North in Francestown Saturday night.

Crews were toned out shortly before 8 p.m., said Francestown Fire Chief Larry Kullgren. When the first crews arrived, within minutes of the call, the camper was already fully involved, and in close proximity to the propertyโ€™s barn.

Kullgren said the owners of the property and trailer had been cleaning and preparing the trailer for the summer camping seasonย and turned on a heating device. No one was inside the trailer when the fire started, Kullgren said, so the actual cause is not known, but was likely a malfunction in the heat source.

Fire and rescue personnel put out the bulk of the fire within 10 minutes of arriving on scene, Kullgren said. No one was injured.

โ€œUnfortunately, the camper is obviously a total loss,โ€ Kullgren said. โ€œItโ€™s unfortunate, they were excited and getting ready for the 2022 camping season.โ€

The camper was purchased two years ago, and was insured, Kullgren said.

Crews from Bennington, Greenfield and New Boston responded to the scene to assist.ย ย
