The Friends of the Jaffrey Library will restart Book Donation Saturdays Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon in the library’s Bean Room

Sales of used books are a fundraising mainstay for the Friends of the Jaffrey Library, as volunteers refresh bookcases on the main floor and lower level frequently with gently used books on many subjects and for all ages.

Last summer, they held the first Book Donation Saturday on the lawn, where people could bring 10 books in good condition to the tables set up on the lawn. Volunteers screened them for condition and subject matter, looking for books that they knew would sell.

In the fall, the Friends moved inside to the Bean Room and held two book donation events on Saturdays. The donations helped restock the sale bookcases, which were decorated for the holidays with special gift tags.

Starting Feb. 12, Friends will accept book donations on the second Saturday of each month. People can bring 10 books in good condition, and volunteers with book sale experience will screen them to potentially add them to the sales. These Saturdays are the only times book donations can be accepted, and people should not take any boxes or bags of books to the library staff.

The Friends need paperback fiction and nonfiction and children’s books. Hardback books should be recent and in very good condition. The Friends cannot accept moldy or damaged books (underlined, stains, torn pages), magazines, encyclopedias, textbooks, travel guides, medical, financial advice and computer books, as they become outdated quickly.

Funds raised by the Friends of the Jaffrey Library help support library services and programs, including internet hotspots, museum and park passes, specialized equipment like scanners for restoring photos, improvements to staff spaces and landscaping.
