Twenty-one new members joined 100+ Women Who Care Monadnock in 2021. With a current membership of more than 200, the group has launched “Be a Friend, Invite a Friend” for 2022 with the goals of increasing the membership and increasing the amount of money given to a member-selected nonprofit each quarter. While anyone can join without an invitation, friends’ endorsements are encouraged.
Every quarter, three nonprofits explain their needs to the membership. The members then vote on the nonprofit to receive $50 or more from each member, for an average total of more than $11,000. Each nonprofit selected must serve at least one of the 15 towns in the organization’s Monadnock service area – Antrim, Bennington, Dublin, Francestown, Greenfield, Hancock, Harrisville, Jaffrey, Nelson, New Ipswich, Peterborough, Rindge, Sharon, Temple and Wilton – but new members can come from anywhere.
New member Susan Gross was invited to join by her friend, Mary Payne.
“Mary talked about it and I looked up the website to find out how to participate. I liked the mission of 100+ Women Monadnock,” Gross stated. “I’ve already started inviting another friend, letting them know this organization exists and encouraging them to go to the website.”
New member Anne Murrock states, “I heard about 100+ Women Monadnock some years ago. Then I did some volunteer work with Sharon Smith, who invited me to join. I saw an opportunity to give a significant boost to a local charity that is already doing good in the community. It’s great giving back to a community I enjoy being part of.”
Nominations for charities are open, and the next virtual voting session begins Jan. 21. For information on nominations and membership, visit 100womenwhocaremonadnock.com.
