Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, 1 Medical Drive, Lebanon, presents “Two Perspectives on the Natural World: Paintings by Carole A. Centre & Martine Villalard-Bohnsack” in Faulkner Building Gallery 3L through Dec. 30.
Centre and Villalard-Bohnsack are both inspired by the diverse and fragile nature that surrounds them. Together, their paintings and drawings evoke nature from alternative points of view – one vast, one intimate.
“I am drawn to landscapes, seascapes and beyond that offer a sense of the vastness and mystery of our world,” stated Centre. “My artist’s eye seeks out intimate discoveries. I might be drawn to the movements and treasures found in a tidal pool or the tangled roots of two trees exposed on a riverbank, revealing the astonishing complexity of the natural world. The more I see, the more I realize that the search has only just begun. My goal is to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully at the world around them, and to discover beauty in their natural surroundings and unusual places.”
“My approach to art has evolved from my lifelong training in the natural sciences,” stated Villalard-Bohnsack. “As a biologist for over 40 years, I have been enthralled by the diversity and complexity of living organisms and was compelled to capture their inherent beauty and ephemeral nature in a tangible form. I have strived to develop an interpretive and painterly style. My goal is to combine the accuracy of the scientific representation with an artistic approach by using watercolor, pastels or colored pencils. I hope that my paintings will convey the excitement and sense of wonder I experience every day when looking at the life that surrounds me.
The artists have committed 25% of the proceeds from all art sales to support DHMC Arts Programs.
