Greenfield’s Oktoberfest will be held this Saturday, with many local vendors and brewers in attendance.
The event will feature food, live music, a silent auction, a blacksmithing demonstration, and a meetinghouse history display.
“All to benefit our 225-year-old Meetinghouse!” said Jesseca Timmons, one of the organizers.
The ticket sales – $20 for adults over 21, $10 for ages 12-20, and free for under 12 – and fundraising from auction items will go toward the cause of Friends of the Greenfield Community Meetinghouse, whose mission it is to raise funds for the restoration and ongoing preservation of the historic Greenfield Meetinghouse.
“It needs kind of a head-to-toe rehabilitation,” Timmons said of the building, repairs that include electricity upgrades, plugging leaks, and redoing flooring.
“The point of Oktoberfest is as much to get town residents involved in the project as a fundraiser,” Timmons said. “People who haven’t been in it aren’t aware of how much it needs.” Attendees will be allowed inside the building to give them an idea of the scope of work needed for the building, and the silent auction will be set up inside.
Admission includes two beers and a commemorative pint glass. Local brewers in attendance will be Post and Beam, White Birch, and Frogg.
Tickets are being limited this year to ensure enough food and drink for all attendees, so those interested must get tickets ahead of time at their website.
“They are going fast, and we don’t want to turn anyone away,” said Timmons. The only other time they held the event, in 2019, it was “smash hit,” and as Timmons said that this same level of support and excitement is being seen from the town now, she and the other organizers want to be sure everybody who wants to go is able to do so.
COVID-19 mitigation protocols will be in effect, including encouragement of masks. “We’re going to have it be as safe as we possibly can,” Timmons said.
Oktoberfest will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on the Greenfield Meetinghouse grounds on Saturday, Oct. 2.
