A 73-year-old man was airlifted with serious injuries after a vehicle hit and pinned him against a building at the Hancock Transfer Station on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency personnel responded to the Transfer Station on Bennington Road at 3 p.m., after a 2006 Toyota Prius operated by an 85-year-old woman struck a pedestrian near the trash compactor, and pinned him against the building, according to a press release from the Hancock Police Department.

Bystanders freed the man and administered first aid until Hancock Fire and Rescue and Peterborough Ambulance arrived. He was ultimately taken to Dartmouth Medical Center in Lebanon by the DHART helicopter. The operator of the vehicle was transported to Monadnock Community Hospital. The press release did not name either party.

The crash damaged the transfer station building, which will remainย closed until its structural integrity can be assessed. Police hope activity can resume by Saturday, May 22, according to the press release.
