Nearly a year after the Greenville Town Hall meeting room was damaged by flooding, the town still struggles to finish the repairs.
During a Select Board meeting Wednesday, Town Administrator Tara Sousa told the board that the meeting room floor needs some epoxy coating to repair uneven spots, but she’s been so far unsuccessful in securing a contractor to do the job, because it’s too small to make it worth it.
Other Town Hall repair projects are moving forward, Sousa said, including the repair of the Town Hall’s stone front steps, though those repairs aren’t slated to start until August.
The board spoke about other Town Hall issues, namely whether the building and town offices should reopen to the public. The board had differing opinions on the issue.
The town announced in March that the Town Hall was closed to the public, though town employees were still available to assist residents online or over the phone or by email. The town already provided options for vehicle renewal through the website, and installed a drop box at the Town Clerk’s office for registrations to be submitted in person, and accepted tax payments through the drop box and by mail.
Select Board Chair Carla Mary said during Wednesday’s meeting that there was “no need to rush” to reopen; Selectman Douglas Reardon said he would be willing to reopen now. Selectwoman Maggie Bickford agreed with Mary, suggesting the most important thing was to preserve the health of the employees.
