ConVal has formed seven committees for tackling various aspects of reopening school in the fall. The steering, mental health, curriculum instruction and assessment, cleaning and sanitizing, staffing and procedures, technological resources and deployment, and postsecondary committee will be working to determine how to best follow CDC guidelines to get the school district up and running in the fall, Dr. Kimberly Rizzo Saunders said in a video update on May 22.

The committees are responsible for identifying whatโ€™s necessary to follow the CDCโ€™s reopening guidelines for schools, which include protecting children and employees at a higher risk for sickness, screening students and employees for exposure and illness upon arrival, minimizing the size and mixing of groups where possible, and developing a plan for outbreaks.

Rizzo Saunders said the curriculum instruction and assessment committeeโ€™s purpose is to determine the progress and gaps in education during remote learning to have students โ€œback on trackโ€ by the end of the year in 2022. The staffing and procedures committee is looking at changes that might need to be made in attendance and scheduling policies, as well as seeking counsel about legal and insurance issues. The postsecondary committee is tasked with fielding the โ€œunique needsโ€ of the classes of 2020 and 2021 as they graduate and seek opportunities beyond high school.ย
