With the Bennington Country Store closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, residents who use the store’s postal service must now make the trip to Antrim to handle that business.

The store took over postal services after the town’s post office closed in the 1990s and has operated as a hub for mailing letters, getting stamps and renting post office boxes nearly continuously ever since.

“There’s something about having a post office in the center of town that really defines a town,” Vickie Turner, who operated the postal service at the store since 2005, told the Ledger-Transcript last year.

About 30 of the store’s 150 boxes were actively rented when it closed, according to Steve Doherty, a USPS representative.

The PO boxes are now located at the Antrim Post Office, 1 Post Road, Antrim.
