A two-alarm fire caused significant damage to a dome house down a narrow dirt road in Antrim on Sunday afternoon. Personnel and vehicles from seven towns responded to 47 Bridle Road East after initial reports and the house’s remote location prompted Fire Chief Marshall Gale to raise a second alarm. The residents were home when the first call went out at 1:09 p.m., Gale said, but neither they nor any emergency personnel were injured in the blaze.
“We’re pretty confident that the cause was a wood stove,” Gale said. The house features a metal dome roof and an ell off to the side. The ell attached to the main structure was totally destroyed, he said, and the fire had spread to the dome roof. It would be up to the insurance company to declare whether the entire home was a total loss, Gale said, but part of the dome roof was damaged by fire, and he was unsure of the structure’s integrity after being exposed to extreme heat.
The initial responders had the bulk of the fire knocked down in the first 15 minutes after the call, Gale said, but a line of trucks were staged on the steep, narrow dirt road and at a water source at the intersection in case they needed to shuttle water between tankers as personnel conducted an extensive check of the building.
According to Antrim’s tax records, the property is owned by Michael Imperato Revocable Trust.
