The Town of Peterborough is making several temporary changes to its Recycling Center operations in order to protect its employees and the public from the threat of the COVID-19 virus.
Household recyclables will now be disposed of in the residential solid waste trash compactor. This includes cardboard, paper, and plastics. Patrons of the facility will not be required to bag those materials; they can be disposed of in the compactor in a loose manner. Patrons should continue to utilize the PAYT bags (the blue bags) for disposal of household waste.
Glass, household batteries, electronics, and light bulbs should continue to be recycled as they typically are at the facility.
The Recycling Center will remain open for business with no changes to standard operating hours, however the building will not be open to the public at this time. The restroom located on the premises will also be closed to the public.
The โmini-mallโ at the Recycling Center is also temporarily closed at this time.
Patrons of the facility will not be required to update their current Recycling Permit at this time. If possible, please consider whether an item needs to be disposed of at this time. If items such as furniture, appliances, etc., can be stored at your location and you can wait to dispose until a later date, this will only help protect the staff, other patrons of the facility, and by extension the community. If you can wait to dispose an item, please consider doing so.
Do not congregate at the Recycling Center at this time. The installation of two additional roll-away containers to help keep up with the potential for an increased demand at the facility is expected, and as such some parking spaces will be lost.
The Recycling Center isย also committed to social distancing in accordance with CDC recommendations, so anything residents can do to quickly get in and out of the facility is greatly appreciated.
