Crotched Mountain Ski and Ride closed on Sunday, after parent company Vail Resorts announced the closure of all its 37 North American resorts as a precaution in the COVID-19 epidemic.
“We understand the challenges this creates, but our priority is to minimize any additional issues from operating in further uncertainty and to avoid potential crowding,” Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz said.
The decision precluded this Saturday’s Spring Carnival and Sunday’s Mug Cup event, two end of season traditions for the ski area.
The decision came even as warm temperatures threatened cover on parts of the mountain. Katz announced that all scheduled employees would be paid in the eight day period between March 15 and 22. This was the first season the ski area operated under Vail Resorts.
