A second Favorite Poem Event will be held on Sunday, March 8 at 4:30 pm, in Harrisville at The Granite Mill Spinning Room, 69 Main St.
Friends and neighbors will gather to hear a selection of people’s “Favorite Poem.” This is the second year of a seasonal series of poetry events. Ten people have been selected to read and talk about a poem that has been important to them.
The Favorite Poem Project was developed by Robert Pinsky (former US Poet Laureate) as a way of celebrating the often unstated, maybe unexpected embrace of poetry by a wide swath of people.
The goal of the The Loom, Poetry in Harrisville, is to broaden perspectives, confidence and appreciation of what poetry can mean by weaving contemporary poets, their poetry, and the audience together in a vibrant new design.
Rebecca K. Gibson, founder of the series, long-time poetry teacher at Tufts University and published poet, hopes to inspire people to trust their own attentive responses to language.
The event is free and open to the public.
