Experience a musical journey Scotland, Ireland, and Brittany with U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion Jamie Laval on Saturday, March 21 in Bass Hall at the Monadnock Center. The evening features evocatively reimagined Gaelic love songs, rustic peasant dances, and mythic tales from the ancient Celtic world.
Recognized throughout the U.S. and Britain as one of the premier performers of traditional Scottish music on the international music scene today, Laval creates rapt audiences with his passionate, virtuosic performances, uncanny imitation of Highland bagpipes, and engaging stories.ย
Currently making his home in Tryon, North Carolina, Laval studied classical violin at the Victoria Conservatory of Music in British Columbia. In 2002, heย won the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship which launched his full-time career in Celtic music. โOne of the hottest fiddlers out thereโ (Asheville Citizen-Times) and โThe next Alasdair Fraserโ (Scotland Press & Post), Laval performed for Her Majesty the Queen, appeared on Dave Matthewsโ platinum โSome Devilโ album, and presented a TEDx Talk on the value of arts and music in our communities.ย
โMurmurs and Dronesโ, Lavalโs third album, won the popular vote for โBest World Traditional Albumโ in the 2012 Independent Music Awards. In 2019, Laval released his latest album, โCeltic Christmas: Music for the Deep Midwinterโ to critical acclaim. He is also skilled composer, arranger of symphonic scores, and a devoted educator.
