To the editor:
I received your reply to my letter regarding the impeachment proceedings and my concern that so much time has been wasted on this matter while important issues have been neglected. For example, it took months for the House to pass the USMCA trade deal. This deal negotiated by the President will help thousands of American workers and our economy.
Moreover, I was shocked that you were badly misinformed about the proceedings following the impeachment vote in the House. From your letter apparently you thought the Articles of Impeachment were forwarded to the Senate. However, Speaker Pelosi ignored a long standing precedent and did not forward the document. Myriad times we have heard from the House leadership that is was of great urgency to rush through impeachment because of the threat to national security posed by the President if he remained in office. It even has been suggested the rush was dire because the President may try to fix the 2020 election. Unbelievably the Speaker withheld the Articles of Impeachment from the Senate and then adjourned the House for a two week vacation. Many have called this an abuse of power by thwarting the responsibility of the House to bring impeachment charges with the clear belief they would be forwarded expeditiously to the Senate. I hope you will voice your concern to your colleagues and the Speaker on this matter.
One last note concerns your attaching much significance to the whistleblower allegations which are based on what can be called hearsay. Many of these allegations have been debunked by testimony during the inquiry in the Intel committee. The whistleblower remains anonymous and has never testified under oath to the Intel committee despite what Chairman Schiff promised. Please review this matter.
