U.S. Senator and Presidential candidate Michael Bennet of Colorado answers questions on Democracy this Friday, Dec. 20 in a nonpartisan Democracy Town Hall Series event.
The nonpartisan event will be held at the Hilltop Golf Course, 49 High St., Peterborough at 2:30 p.m. and is scheduled to last one hour. Ample parking is available on site, and registration for the event is highly suggested at OpenDemocracyAction.org. Senator Bennet is a former businessman and superintendent of schools in Denver, and has served in the U.S. Senate since 2009.
Sen. Bennet has publicly called for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, a lifetime ban on members of Congress becoming lobbyists, a ban on gerrymandering and implementation of ranked choice voting and several other reforms. Moderator Olivia Zink, executive director of Open Democracy Action, will be asking for details of Sen. Bennet’s plans. Questions will also be taken from the voters in attendance.
The series has already hosted seven candidates around the state, addressing money-in-politics and campaign finance reform, gerrymandering and redistricting reform, anonymous Dark Money funding, overturning of the Citizens United decision and the 28th amendment, publicly-funded elections and other democracy reforms. The event is hosted by New Hampshire-based nonprofit Open Democracy Action and national democracy reform group Equal Citizens, and funded by more than a dozen national and Granite State groups.
Bennet also plans a meet-and-greet with Jaffrey seniors at the Jaffrey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 20 Plantation Drive, Friday at 1 p.m.
