The lighted truck and tractor parade returns to Bennington this Sunday as a finale to the town’s annual holiday celebration.

Any truck, tractor, Jeep, car, or trailer with added holiday lights can enter, and there’s no preregistration required. Organizer Bethany Craig said that after a couple participants asked “who won” last year’s inaugural parade, she opted to let the public weigh in this year.

“We thought this year we’ll have people photograph each of the parade entries and we’ll put a little voting box up for the week after at Town Hall and the library,” she said.

The town’s Nativity play is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. on the steps of the Bennington Congregational Church. The cast features new actors and “people from all walks of life,” said Craig. Ten year old Kate Stahl will narrate this year.

Events run on the town common from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., and include the lighting of the town’s Christmas tree, children’s activities, a petting zoo, a holiday story walk, festive music, and food and drink for sale. Craig said the festivities will proceed “snow or shine.”

The lighted truck and tractor parade takes off at 5 p.m. from Eaton Avenue and heads toward the Historical Society. No walkers/marchers allowed, all participants must ride in a vehicle/trailer, throwing candy or other items from vehicles is not permitted, and signs indicating the business, club, or organization sponsoring the entry is encouraged.
