To the editor:
Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains would like to reach out to Genny Kot and the many other girls in the Peterborough, Jaffrey, Rindge, Greenville, and New Ipswich area searching for a way to be involved in an organization that helps them discover their inner Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker and Leader.
Girl Scouting does just that – in a girl-led, safe environment that focuses on providing girls the best opportunities to develop their leadership and life skills. In the story featuring Genny, she commented that she didn’t know what Girl Scouts do. Girl Scouts do anything they choose!
She and other girls may be interested to know that there is already a Girl Scout troop they can join. There are dozens of existing Girl Scout troops here at all age levels, with more forming currently. Troop 59095 in Jaffrey would welcome her, and as a Girl Scout and potential camper, she would be able to do the knots, archery, swimming, camping, and even Airsoft riflery she loves.
In Peterborough last March, at ConVal High School, Girl Scout Junior Troop 12102 put on their STEAM Expo, where girls could try out snap circuits, handle live caterpillars, fire off a trebuchet, learn about the environment, try out FIRST Lego League robots and more.
At our summer camps in New Hampshire and Vermont, we offer girls camping plus archery, boating, climbing, and hiking. Girl Scouts of the USA recently released 42 new badges, including Outdoor High Adventure badges that let girls choose how they want to earn each badge. Girl Scouts also offers the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards – the highest honors for girls in grades 4-12.
