A Massachusetts woman was assisted off Mount Monadnock on Sunday, after injuring herself in a fall.

Denise Schick-Fuller, 28, of Roslindale, Massachusetts, was hiking the White Cross Trail with her father at Monadnock State Park on Sunday, when she slipped on wet rocks and injured her leg, a press release issued by New Hampshire Fish and Game on Sunday said.

Schick-Fuller began her hike at 9:30 a.m., reached the summit, and fell during her descent, at about 12:45 p.m., according to the press release. She was unable to continue the descent and called for assistance.

Conditions were challenging due to the rain, and Schick-Fuller was carried down with assistance from members of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, State Park staff, volunteer hikers and New Hampshire Fish and Game. She was carried about a mile and a half to the trail head at the park headquarters, arriving at 4:40 p.m. She was assessed by the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance at the park headquarters and driven by a family member to the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough.

New Hampshire Fish and Game reminds hikers to plan appropriately when hiking, and to carry equipment for unexpected situations, including have to stay the night if necessary, and to carry appropriate safety aides. Visit www.hikesafe.com for a list of recommended hiking equipment.
