A teenager was air-lifted to the hospital on Friday afternoon after a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) crash in Temple.

On Friday at approximately 3:43 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers responded to a UTV crash a 31 Webster Highway in Temple.

The driver of the vehicle, Sean Ferreira, 34, of Antrim had been operating the Polaris Razor 1000 UTV across a field at a high rate of speed and lost control due to muddy conditions, according to a press release issued by Fish and Game on Friday.

Both the field conditions and the speed contributed to the accident Conservation Officer Shawn MacFadzen said in an interview Monday.

The UTV rolled over several times and when it landed, it pinned the leg of Ferreira’s passenger, Joanna Adams, 18, of Greenfield.

Ferreira was able to lift up the UTV enough for Adams to extract herself from under the vehicle before Fish and Game officers arrived, MacFazden said.

Adams was taken by helicopter to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Mass., where she was treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

According to the admissions office at UMass Memorial Hospital, on Monday morning Adams was not a patient. MacFazden said she was treated and released for a fractured tail bone, deep tissue bruises on her hips. Ferreira had only minor scrapes and bruises, MacFazden said.

MacFazden advised riders of UTV and other recreational vehicles to wear all appropriate safety gear and operate within what is reasonable for the driver’s ability.

Neither Adams nor Ferreira were wearing helmets according to the press release.

The accident is currently under investigation.
