The New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit responded to a report of a body found in the woods off Route 119 in Rindge Tuesday afternoon.
The Major Crime Unit was sent to investigate and secure the scene, which is a wooded area with a great deal of undergrowth, Senior Assistant Attorney General Benjamin J. Agati said Tuesday night.
The wooded area is located 20 to 40 feet off Route 119 in Rindge about 2 and a half miles east of the Route 202 intersection, he said.
“It’s roughly 20 to 40 feet in from the side of the road,” Agati said.
Agati said Tuesday night, the body of the man was found mid-afternoon on Tuesday.
All that is known is that the deceased was an adult male, he said. Nothing has been ruled out as cause of death.
“At this point suicide is still a possibility,” Agati said.
The death may or may not be a suspicious death, he said. The Major Crime Unit was brought for a thorough investigation, he said. “We want to err on the side of caution.”
New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald and New Hampshire State Police Colonel Christopher Wagner announced in a press release Tuesday evening that the body of a deceased adult male was located in Rindge Tuesday afternoon.
Agati said he expects to be able to release the identity of the deceased Wednesday afternoon, after it has been determined in an autopsy to be performed Wednesday morning by the New Hampshire Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.
