After calling two special meetings this month, Mascenic Regional School District has hired a new principal at Boynton Middle School.

Elizabeth Pogorzelski was appointed to the principal job at a July 17 special meeting. Pogorzelski replaces John MacArthur Jr., who resigned for a principal job at the Alton Central School, a K-8 school in Alton. MacArthur, who is listed at an address in Hooksett, was hired in 2015.

โ€œThe time has come for me to move on to new opportunities. I was recently made an offer that I could not refuse in a district closer to my home,โ€ said MacArthur in his letter of resignation. โ€œIt has truly been an honor to serve the communities of Greenville and New Ipswich for the past two years.โ€

The district did not have a regular meeting scheduled for July. After discussing MacArthurโ€™s resignation at a July 10 meeting, according to the agenda, the school board hired Pogorzelski at the July 17 meeting.

Pogorzelski has been at Boynton since August of 2009 when she started as an eighth grade social studies teacher. She got her master’s degree in education administration in 2011 and worked her way up to assistant principal, a job she was hired for in July of 2015. Pogorzelski’s salary is $83,358, according to district figures. MacArthur was making $85,000.

Shane Bryant, formerly a director of evening division at Monadnock Regional School District, was also hired as the district’s special education coordinator, replacing Cheryl Newsham, who left earlier this year. Bryant’s salary is $68,000. Newsham was making $75,000.
