Stephanie Syre-Hager has been hired as the joint principal for Antrim/Bennington schools.
“I’m thrilled to become a part of the ConVal school district,” Syre-Hager said after a regular school board meeting on Tuesday evening.
Syre-Hager, who lives in Mason, said she has been in education for 22 years and is currently the acting assistant principal at Quinsigamond Elementary School in Worcester, Massachusetts.
She said she is excited to work in a community close to where she lives.
The school board unanimously approved to hire Syre-Hager, and didn’t ask her any questions, although she attended the meeting. Syre-Hager said she has met with members of the school board prior to Tuesday night.
A 2016-2017 budget by object detail on ConVal’s website lists two separate salary line items for the principal position at Antrim Elementary School and the one at Pierce Elementary School. There was $41,051 set aside for both of the positions. Salaries for other elementary school principals in the district range from $75,000 to $89,500.
According to a newsletter sent out posted on Antrim Elementary School’s website, the school board approved the nomination of John Jordan on March 15 as the interim principal for Antrim Elementary School and the Pierce Elementary School for the 2016 – 2017 school year.
Neither Superintendent Kim Saunders or acting Principal John Jordan were available for comment by deadline on Wednesday.
At its meeting, the school board also set a date set a date to ratify results of town elections, many of which were postponed due to a nor’easter that struck the area on voting day. It will hold a public hearing and then vote on the matter before a regular school board meeting Tuesday, May 16 at 7 p.m.
