Carefully consider proposed zoning amendment

To the editor:

Dear fellow Peterborough townees: On May 9 you have the opportunity to vote for the thoughtfully created amendment to the Zoning Ordinance, which came out of the spring, 2014 Peterborough Dream/Revisioning sessions. It is crucial to consider and examine this amendment for its impact on the future layout of our town and for the composition of its population.

Do we want Our Town to be affordable or not? Do we want Our Town to become primarily a retirement community or do we want more younger people to be attracted here? This proposal would create more opportunities for middle-income families and income seniors to afford living in Peterborough by allowing smaller, more energy efficient housing units to be built on smaller plots of land. More people would be able to live closer to downtown, thus depending more on their feet for transportation than on their cars.

I can see no downside to the proposed 2017 Amendment to the Zoning Ordinance. Thanks to the Zoning Board members, headed by Ivy Vann, for all their work to create the proposal.

Remember your right and your privilege to vote on May 9. Go to zoning board> proposed zoning ordinance 2017 to see the full document. (The 300 words allowed here cannot do it justice.)
