The WLC baseball team got a win Wednesday on what was just their second day playing on a field this spring. “Sloppy game, but managed a win,” said head coach Dave Finch after the 8-6 win over Hinsdale.
Neal Brennan started and went 2.1 innings, followed by Owen Hughes, who went 3.1. Tied at 6-6 going into thelast inning, WLC scored two on an error, and Sean McClure came in and shut the Pacers down in the seventh.
Brennan, McClure Cody Johnson and Trey Carrier all had two hits.
On Friday, the Warriors hosted Sunapee and lost 10-3. Despite the blowout final, it was a tight game until Sunapee opened it up in the sixth, Finch said.
Sunapee took a 1-0 lead on a leadoff homer by Cade Robinson. WLC came back and tied it up on a Shane Partridge hit before Brennan smacked in two more for a 3-1 lead in the second. Sunapee slowly crept back in and then blew it open in the sixth.
Although McClure got the loss, he pitched a good game,” Finch said. Jake LeVert came in to finish out the game andallowed no runs.
WLC (1-1) travels to Newmarket (1-0) today at 4 p.m. and hosts PCA Dover (0-0) Wednesday at 4.
