Greenfield’s annual winter carnival will kick off Saturday, Feb. 4. at 8 a.m. with a fire department breakfast. The meal costs anywhere from $3 to $8. There will also be fire-station tours and car washes available by donation. The event is sponsored by the Greenfield Firefighters’ Association.

The historical society will open its doors from 10 a.m. to noon.

Clothes Closet, which is located at the Ministry Center on Depot Drive off Slip Road, will also be open from 10 a.m. to noon. The event is sponsored by the Greenfield Congregational Covenant Church.

Community members are encouraged to bring their skates, sleds and snowshoes for Sunset Lake Activities that will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a bonfire, hot cocoa, snacks and a lake side lunch. The activity is sponsored by The Greenfield Trails Association. Donations are accepted.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Meeting House there will be indoor board games and outdoor snowman building. The event is sponsored by The Greenfield Congregational Covenant Church. There will be hot cocoa and snacks available.

At 2:30 p.m. there will be a homemade cardboard sled race at the Greenfield Inn. People interested in participating are advised to build a sled out of cardboard and duct tape and to use clear packing tape on the bottom of the sled. Organizers are also encouraging people to decorate their homemade sled and to dress up in a costume for the event.

The sledding event will depend on snow conditions. Those planning to attend are asked to park along the side of the road or at the Meeting House and arrive at the inn by 2:15 p.m.
