On Saturday, the ConVal Nordic team traveled to Bedford to participate in the Souhegan Sprint Elimination races.
This exciting format consists of individual time trials in the morning on a fast 1.5K course. The top 32 boys and the top 32 girls advance to the elimination heats in the afternoon. There, four skiers race head to head with the top two finishers advancing to the next round.
The ConVal team placed two of its skiers in the afternoon heats. Sawyer Cawthern, the ConVal captain, raced in the first heat, and teammate Schuyler Michalak advanced to the second heat before being edged out. The team overall did very well, with two other skiers, Fenia Benet-Higgins and Bronwyn Tyler-Wall, missing the 32nd place cut off by mere seconds.
All of the team skied strong races in a very competitive field of over 150 racers. The Cougarsโ next meet is a home classic race this coming Saturday, Jan. 28.
