You are all angels

To the editor:

The Christmas season reminds me that in addition to being a “good town to live in,” Peterborough is also a very kind and generous town to live in. The season brings out the best in us.

During this time of year, the Peterborough Food Pantry flourishes with many residents, organizations, and businesses who come through our doors to offer gifts of money and food. We are humbled by the help we receive to feed those families who are in need of the simple necessity of food. We pride ourselves in sending out thank you notes, and we also have many donors who drop off donations with a smile and a wave who prefer not to receive a note. You are all angels!

We’d like to thank the many local businesses and organizations who have collected money and food in their shops on our behalf. They include European Esthetics, Paper & Roses, Sarah’s Hatbox, Toadstool Bookstore, Anytime Apparel and Hobbs Jewelers. Together they raised $836 dollars in cash donations to the Food Pantry.

Other generous businesses and organizations who raised money and gathered food during the holiday season include Steeles Stationers, SDE, the Bagel Mill, the MacDowell Colony, Monadnock Oil & Vinegar, Manhattan East Hair Design, Monadnock Community Hospital, Grove Street Fiduciary, Copies n’ More, Divine Mercy Parish, All Saints Church, Union Congregational Church, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, Lions Club, Peterborough Rotary, Lake Sunapee Bank, Bond Wellness Center, Dublin Community Church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and the Sargent Center.

The Spirit of Giving Program at Shaw’s (those donations you make at the register) was a colossal success, concluding with double the amount collected from last year. This means we’ll receive several large pallets of food during January, thanks to you, our community. This program, along with your gifts, gets us through the cold winter months, knowing we can do our job to distribute food to needy families.

The board and volunteer staff at the Pantry are inspired by your generosity and we thank you for a bountiful holiday season.
