After nearly a month off, the Franklin Pierce University track & field team returned to action on Sunday, with select members traveling to the Dartmouth Relays.

The men’s squad procured 43 points and a third-place finish, while the women placed 10th out of 10 scoring teams with two points on the day, courtesy of junior Emily Quinn in the weight throw.

Senior Cory Cataldo took sixth the 60-meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump, and also ran the anchor leg on the third-place 4×200-meter relay team to lead the way for the Ravens.

Individually, Cataldo was responsible for 12 points for the Ravens. In the 60-meter hurdles, he ran a time of 8.63 seconds in the prelims to place fifth in his heat (eighth overall) and advance to the final. He was three ticks better in the final, stopping the clock at 8.60 seconds to finish sixth for six points. He also picked up six points via a fourth-place finish in the long jump, where he leaped 6.53 meters.

Cataldo also ran the anchor leg in the 4×200-meter relay, which finished in third place to pick up six points. Junior Nicholas Jacques sophomore Jaris Neville, freshman Trevor Guay and Cataldo combined for a time of 1:32.38.

Neville also picked up points individually for the Ravens, as he competed in the 60-meter dash. In the prelims, he ran a time of 7.18 seconds, which was good for second in his heat (seventh overall). Neville was then four ticks better in the final, running a time of 7.14 seconds to place fifth and earn six points. His time is currently tied for sixth in the Northeast-10 Conference on the season.

The highest individual score of the day came via freshman Richard Cote in the mile race walk. Cote was the lone collegiate runner entered in the event, which meant his seventh-place finish of 9:27.74 earned 10 points for the crimson and grey.

When all was said and done, the 43 points for the Ravens was good for third. Host Dartmouth took the title with 189 points, while Massachusetts Lowell placed second with 126 points.

The Ravens’ women scored via Quinn’s seventh-place finish in the weight throw. Her heave of 15.09 meters collected two points. Quinn already ranks third in the Northeast-10 Conference in the event.

The Ravens also put together a pair of noteworthy performances in the shot put on Sunday. Freshman Jen Iozzi finished eighth with a heave of 11.45 meters, while fellow freshman Katey Comstock took ninth with a throw of 11.44 meters. Iozzi’s mark was good enough to move into a tie for 10th in the NE10, while Comstock moved into 12th in the league.

On the team front, host Dartmouth took home the team title with 202 points, blowing out second-place UMass, which finished with 93 points.

The Ravens return to action on Friday, Jan. 13, when they travel to the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartan Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y.
