Greenfield pulled in more revenue in 2016 than any time in recent memory, Town Administrator Aaron Patt told select board members during a recent meeting.

Patt said the town ended the year with more than $1 million in generated revenue.

“This is a big milestone for the town,” Patt said in a recent interview. “We worked really hard to get to this point.”

Select board members said that revenue is, in large part, due to seven property sales in 2016 that boosted the town’s revenues. Select board members said the town sold seven of eight parcels of land, which varied in size.

“The property sales were significantly more productive than I would have ever hoped or dreamed,” Patt said.

But Patt said the number is also a result of revenues generated from rooms and meals taxes, vehicle registration, and a community grant that all added to the number. He said items such as rooms and meals taxes and vehicle registration spikes reflect a strengthening economy.

Patt said generated revenues will be placed into a fund balance and made available to the select board when they set the budget in 2017.

“It’s nice to end the year with something like this,” Chair Margaret Charig Bliss said during the select board’s most recent meeting on Tuesday evening.

Tuesday’s board meeting quickly broke into non-public session to discuss personnel matters.

At 6:30 p.m. it began its annual review of Police Chief Brian Giammarino behind closed doors.

It evaluated Giammarino’s performance and discussed compensation, according to an agenda posted on the town’s website.

The board will meet again at 5:30 p.m. next Tuesday.
