Jaffrey police have located a potential entry and exit path for a recent burglary at the River Street Market, which occurred sometime after the store closed on Wednesday and when it opened Thursday.

Police Chief Bill Oswalt said Friday that investigating police officers found a path through the woods that could have been used as a means to rob the store. The burglary occurred sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

โ€œOfficers followed a path through the woods behind the building and recovered a few items,โ€ said Oswalt. โ€œWe believe that the path was used as a way to and from the store.โ€

Oswalt said the robber or robbers involved entered the store through a rear door of the store.

Police have a person of interest, said Oswalt.

โ€œThey didnโ€™t get much, just some cigarettes and some beer and a little bit of change,โ€ said store owner Rod Nichols, who said the burglar/burglars tried to get into the storeโ€™s safe but couldnโ€™t. โ€œThe police are investigating and I feel like theyโ€™ll probably figure it out.โ€

According to the storeโ€™s Facebook page, the store is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The market is located on Route 202 across from Tyler Hill Road.

Oswalt also declined to assign any detail or monetary amount to the items stolen, as the crime is still under police investigation.
