The Mountain Road project continues on into the spring, according to town officials.

Lyndeborough selectmen met Wednesday as part of its board meeting with project engineer Kevin Leonard of Northpoint Engineering, who said the delays have been caused by a number of mishaps during the months of work on the road.

He said work will take a winter hiatus before the end of the month and conclude in the spring, likely March.

โ€œI want to get the job done for you guys how you want it, on time, on budget, all that,โ€ Leonard said to the board.

The project, which broke ground in June, was given a $1,667,354 budget, including a bond for $900,000 to be paid over 15 years. Still, Leonard informed the board it may have gone over-budget, saying he underestimated the effort it was going to take.

โ€œThereโ€™ve been a lot of things in this project that have caused this project to go slow, made the smoothness and the way things happened on site frustrating,โ€ he said.

Northpoint hired two subcontractors, Kingsbury Construction and Continental Paving. Having to check errors in their work is one of the reasons expenses have run high.

Engineering and oversight in the spring will cost about $10,000, and under $50,000 total. A 1.5 inch asphalt overlay of the entire project is the last step.

In addition to the bond, the town is paying for the work with a funding contingency. It hopes the investment in Mountain Road now will keeps costs down in the long run.

โ€œIโ€™m wondering about the money for this year, not next year yet,โ€ Selectman Mark Schultz said when questioning Leonard. โ€œThings have not gone smoothly.โ€

Additional work will including placing shoulder gravel, drainage covers and raisers.

Understanding the situation, Leonard said, โ€œTheyโ€™ll do it when you want to do it or when youโ€™re ready for it.โ€
