The Select Board began discussing 2017 employee raises for full and part-time employees with the town’s highway department.

The last time employees saw a raise was two years ago.

Town Administrator Jamie Pike proposed raising full-time employee wages by 3 percent, which would result in about a $12,000 increase for the town.

But select board member Abigail Arnold said health and pension costs have spiked, a factor that should be taken into consideration.

Select board member Henry Kunhardt said a 3 percent increase was higher than he was thinking.

“I think he full-time wages aren’t that bad. I think the part-time wages are a little low,” Kunhardt said.

It is unclear whether the board would implement the raise to both full and part-time employees. In the past, raises have been given out evenly across the board.

The discussion will be revisited at a future meeting. The board reconvened on Wednesday morning for a non public session to discuss RSA 91-A:3 II (C). Its next meeting is Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m.
