After a recount, John Carr has defeated Melanie Levesque in their tight state represenative race.

Levesque, a Democrat from Brookline, requested a recount after Carr, a Republican from Brookline, defeated her by 51 votes in the election on Nov. 8. The recount was held on Nov. 17 at the State Archives.

โ€œIt was a very organized process, very methodical,โ€ Levesque said. โ€œEven though I lost it made me feel very good about the process we have.โ€

She gained one vote from the recount, trimming the margin to 50, and is not ruling out running again in two years.

โ€œIโ€™m keeping my signs, and Iโ€™ll leave it at that,โ€ she said.

Carr joins John Lewicke, a Republican from Mason, in representing Hillsborough County District 26, which includes Brookline and Mason.

It will be his first term in Concord. Currently, he is the Health Officer in the town of Brookline, an appointed position. The last elected office served was on the Brookline Board of Selectmen, on which he served two terms.

In all 10 recounts held last week, there was no change in the winner. The state has five more recounts this week.
