To the editor:
Elections are about the future. The right person to lead in State Senate District 9 is Lee Nyquist.
New Hampshire needs a healthy future. The N.H. Health Protection Plan has allowed thousands to obtain health insurance. Federal money โ taxes we have already paid โ picked up the cost of the program. Sen. Andy Sanborn voted to end the program, reject over $200 million annually from Washington, and deny 50,000 people health insurance. This would have been devastating for Monadnock Community Hospital, as it would have seen a big increase in people looking for free care.
New Hampshire needs a future where the wealthy are not able to buy the political system. Lee Nyquist supports a constitutional amendment to overturn the Citizens United decision. Andy Sanborn is on the opposite side. He even voted against a bill to create a committee to study the Citizens United decision.
Many families have been touched by the opioid crisis. Lee Nyquist supports expanded treatment options. Sen. Sanborn voted against legislation that would have doubled treatment access. Then he claimed that the crisis was due to more people having health insurance!
Lee Nyquist believes that women should make decisions about their own bodies. Sen. Sanborn is anti-choice. Since the U.S. Constitution does not allow him to have his way on this issue, he looks for ways to limit choice. This year he voted for a bill to require medical providers to report all abortions to the state. โPersonally identifiable informationโ would be part of the report, but the state would keep it โconfidential.โ In this age of Wikileaks,ย we know what a poor job government does keeping secrets. If Sen. Sanborn gets his way, you can kiss good-bye the confidentiality of medical records.
