A familiar face has been announced as the new chair of the community coalition J-R Alive.

Mary Drew, known for her work in the community surrounding drug and alcohol abuse and addiction, was announced as the new chair in an email sent out by founder Michelle Durand on Wednesday night.

The coalition banded together with a goal of creating programming and community support to educate people in Jaffrey and Rindge about the opioid epidemic.

“We have already come up with our next 10 to 12 events,” said Drew. “The work J-R Alive is doing is too important to see it stop.”

Durand, a teacher at Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School, said it was appropriate for Drew to take over as she was recently awarded a grant for her non-profit, Reality Check, which will offer support to the community regarding drug issues. Durand also said she had a change in position at the school.
