A two-person art exhibit titled “Close to Shore” will open at the Hancock Town Library on Monday, Oct. 17.

Byron and Cynthia Niederhelman will present an exhibit highlighting the beauty and uniqueness of the Atlantic coast.

Cynthia, who has degrees in art from the University of Massachusetts and Rhode Island School of Design, taught art for many years. The majority of her paintings are done en plein air and focus on the essence and effect of light on the subject.

Byron’s primary objective with photography is to develop a sense of awareness and appreciation for nature, concentrating on local and regional areas. At the same time he wants to evoke an emotional response to the elements of the image through subject material, perspective, and/or lighting effect.

There will be an artists’ reception on Sunday, Oct. 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Daniels Room where the exhibit will be on display through Nov. 17.

It is wise to call ahead as sometimes the Daniels Room is reserved.
