Greenfield library to host flu events

The Stephenson Memorial Library in Greenfield is hosting two events to get people ready for flu season.

On Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Wensberg Room, learn about the 1918 flu pandemic from UNH Professor Marion Girard-Dorsey .

This presentation will cover the pandemic of Spanish flu that spread across the world. While World War I did not cause the flu, the close troop quarters and massive troop movements hastened the pandemic and probably both increased transmission and augmented mutation; those may also have increased the lethality of the virus. It is estimated that 10 to 20 percent of those who were infected died โ€“ 3 to 6 percent of the entire global population. The event is free and open to the public.

Then, the following afternoon, Oct. 7, the library will once again host the pharmacists from Rite Aid in Peterborough for a flu shot clinic, in the libraryโ€™s Reading Room from 2 to 4 p.m. Please bring an insurance card. For more information, call 547-2790.
